Adults and grand children may want to discuss all of these at appropriate meetings and develop a game plan for getting them done!  As you can see from the featured image, Henry is still with us and wants us to get our butts in gear and take care of the cabin.

Carpentry/Construction:

  • bring the old deck up to level and even with the new deck (probably not optional if we want to do the connection correction)
  • replace support posts/beams under cabin
  • add screen doors to the two new doors.  Note that we have one left over screen door from the old kitchen that possibly could be used.
  • purchase tile and put back splash in cabinet area.
  • develop a pump house for the pump to enable it to be protected/insulated/accessible

Electrical

  • develop a better lighting for the living room
  • look at replacing lighting in bedroom areas.  Develop a proposal initially.
  • run electric to the pump house

Painting

  • repaint wall behind entertainment center
  • look at optional colors for kitchen and come up with something more interesting/historic looking
  • new exterior doors need to be painted inside and outside.
  • inside door to bedroom area needs to be painted.
  • stain/finish on new siding that gets installed.  Possibly additional existing siding areas.

Plumbing

  • should be in pretty good shape!

Outside projects

  • reseed with mountain wildflower mix areas around the cabin that have been disturbed by construction (plan for hand watering if needed)
  • look at removing dangerous fire hazard trees near house
  • limb trimming in the forest (dead stuff)
  • cut up/split/stack wood left over from construction. Cut up any additional wood we may come across for firewood.
  • clean up any remaining junk under/near the cabin.  Note that there is a dump/transfer station in Walsenburg.

Computers/electronics

  • satellite for internet connection (computer access/work)
  • look at optional ways to accommodate telephones
  • TV/DVD player for entertainment center (probably only about 36 to maybe 42″ size)

Furniture

  • Not sure of anything at this time

Planning

  • design for the fireplace area moving fireplace more into the corner and properly backing it with brick or stone.
  • design for bumping out the upstairs to enable windows and more headroom
  • look at improving front entry to allow for a real entry (similar to what is on Gary’s house).  Replace and fix that horrible closet near the front door.
  • design an outside shower
  • redesign the outhouse/storage shed to allow for better tool storage and a covered area for wood.  Maybe toss in a composting toilet.

Nice job Chris on this website! Just a heads up… the caretaker left a message Sunday night about the pump still being outside and still attached to the stream. Does anyone know if the pump was drained. I check with the caretaker on Monday, Dec. 1

I checked with JoAnn, she got back to me with this:

“Yes it is drained. You can have him bring it in or whatever he does. Put on the front porch not the kitchen.”
